SpikeKey Beach Classic/Crystal Classic
Siesta Key, FL Local professional beach volleyball Megan Wallin hosted a beach volleyball tournament. Top players battling for the title King and Queen of the beach. Fans sat close to the action and watched the eight women and eight men in a fast paced, highly competitive environment. The Sarasota Queen was Chara Harris and the King was Bruno lurnardi!
On Sunday a junior tournament featured local teams coached by the pro players. This event was designed to be fan-friendly and included meet-and-greets, photo ops and interaction with the outgoing, personable, professional competitors.

Summer = Beach Volleyball Season = Hot Sand
With the summer beach volleyball season we compete in the hot and humid weather which results in hot sand. As an athlete I have always been tentative of wearing any type of tape or braces while competing. I was always nervous that the "extra" would take away from my game" I soon learned that playing with sand socks is a necessity as the sand feels like hot lava during the summer.
This summer I am going to try the Playa H-Top Sockwa's. I will be blogging the truth about the Playa Hi Top and hopefully capturing some fun pics and videos.
Here is a list of concerns that I often hear about wearing sand socks to compete in beach volleyball tournaments
Sand leaking in the sock making my foot uncomfortable
Having foot grip on the sand is vital will I still have a foot grip?
Be back soon-Megan

SpikeKey Beach Volleyball Camp
Dear Parents,
I want to thank you for your daughters' participation in the Winter 2010 SpikeKey Beach volleyball camp. The coaching staff had a great time working with each and every athlete. One of my favorite aspects of coaching is watching eager young faces that are willing to learn and have fun, and witnessing their transformation during the camp and over time. We had a great group of girls with an outstanding attitude!
All the Best, Megan, Whitney, Vern and Wayne
FYI: The next camp will be during Spring Break

Ranse Jones Beach Volleyball Classic
Live simple, play hard….. Ranse Jones
That is the philosophy that 34-year-old beach volleyball player Ranse Jones lived his life by and is the message inscribed on the championship trophy that bears his name. As many of you already know, long time beach volleyball player Ranse Jones suffered a brain aneurism and passed away after a long fight. I ask you not to think of his death but instead of the immense power of friendship and family elicited from one inspiring man.
The beach volleyball community got together at Deerfield Beach November 6th and 7th to put on the inaugural Ranse Jones Beach Volleyball Classic. The two-day charity event drew more than 1,000 spectators and players. Players from across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico came back as a sign of respect and love for a special player. The top women's player in the world, Misty May-Treanor, played on Saturday and was accompanied by her husband, Matt Treanor, the former Florida Marlin and current Texas Rangers' catcher. Along with Misty volleyball star Nick Lucena a top men’s player competed with tournament co-director Gino Ferraro.
The weekend tournament was a tremendous success, and the gathering of friends, family and the beach volleyball community was something that Jones would have been thrilled with. The tournament raised over $30,000 with all proceeds going to his medical needs. “Over the years, Ranse has left his sandy footprints on our hearts and for that, we are forever changed and so blessed.” Barbare Jones
Special Thanks: Dig The Beach Tour ( Chris Colgan) Florida Beach Volleyball Tour ( Gino Farraro) East End Tour ( Rich Heiles) Waboba, SpikeKey Beach, Fire Dog, Foot Volley, Mr. Farris and many more..

Miami Dig the Beach Nationals
Miami Beach is always a hot spot for new trends, great restaurants, entertaining music and much more. This past weekend, Dig The Beach held the 2010 championship event in Miami. The venue was great, the courts and sponsor village were located within an arms reach from the very popular Ocean Drive strip. Waboba was represented well with three athletes sporting the Waboba name. Megan Wallin and Chara Harris took home a third place losing a very tight game in three to the team who won the tournament. We would like to thank Chris Meadows and his children Joshua, Iona and Natalie. They demonstrated the Flyer on the Boardwalk and played Waboba—bouncing the ball on the water and getting others into the game on the beach
We would also like to thank all of those who gave donations to TWLOHA.
Stayed Tuned... Our next event is Manhattan, CA September 24-26, 2010

Alligator Vacation
So this weeks blog may not be your typical day at the beach. However, it does involve a body of water known as the swamp. We took a family vacation to Okeechobee to tour the south of Florida on an airboat. The night ride was peaceful and of course exciting with the capturing of two gators.
I would like to thank J&S Outdoor Adventures. Johnny, is an amazing guide who truly is passionate about the outdoor world. I know the team offers alligator hunts, waterfowl hunts, gigging trips, airboat tours and night rides to see gators or stare at the stars.

Atlantic City, NJ
I have always viewed Atlantic City solely as a gambling town until this past weekend. After stepping outside away from the noisy slot machines and hopeful gamblers there is beautiful four mile boardwalk filled with life and high energy.
The East End Volleyball Tour and Bally’s Casino presented the $8,000 Big Shot Championships Aug. 28-29. During the course of the beach season you could win a trip to Atlantic City by placing first in a tournament hosted by EEVB. There were teams from North Carolina, Virginia, Florida, New York, Chicago, and Michigan all competing for the championship.
The location of the tournament was amazing. There was a beach bar to the left of the courts and to the right was the ocean and sun bathers. The New Jersey crowd certainly got into the game. Check out the You tube videos you can hear the loud cheering and screaming from the crowd.
Waboba was a sponsor for Megan Wallin, Chara Harris and Mark VanZwieten. The athletes handed out Waboba balls to the fans and athletes surrounding the court. Megan and Chara battled through the losers’ bracket and into the finals after losing the first match of the day. They lost a tight game in three in the finals. Check out the game footage below.
Also, Megan Wallin, Chara Harris, Racquel Beson and Kelly Haan were celebrity guest at the Resort Casino. I am sure some video footage will be coming out soon!

Manhattan Beach Open, 50th Anniversary
The city of Manhattan Beach and the California Beach Volleyball Association took full reins of the legendary Manhattan Beach Open to ensure its 50th birthday. (August 21-22, 2010) Along with the Organizers three sponsors stepped up to ensure the event would take place; Waboba, Nectar Accessories and Twelve and Highland.
The Manhattan Beach was crowded with true volleyball advocates and curious spectators. Megan Wallin and Diane Pascua represented Waboba throughout the weekend. This was the first time Megan and Diane stepped onto the sand together. The played four matches on Saturday loosing one pushing them to the contender’s bracket. They lost to Erin Grey and Katherine Babcock on Sunday who took second overall. Waboba broke the record for money raised for TWLOHA! Thanks to all of you who donated to a great cause.
South Bay locals Aaron Watchfogel and Sean Rosenthal captured the Manhattan Beach open crown. The women's champions Tealle Hunkus and Heather Lowe were also crowned. The pair also went undefeated through both days of their title quest.
Mayor, Mitch Ward awarded the winners with giant trophies and thanked the three sponsors by name. It was a great weekend for beach volleyball.

Chicago Corona Light Wide Open Jul 31-Aug 1
The Waboba Team hit the 7th beach stop ( Chicago) on the SpikeKey beach summer schedule. Megan Wallin, Chara Harris, Mark & Steve VanZwieten represented Waboba at the Chicago Corona Light Wide Open. The Corona Light Wide Open tour is one of the nation's leading grassroots beach volleyball tours. The tournament had live entertainment throughout the weekend in addition to volleyball of course. As part of the Waboba team Tony from PR Power and his Waboba demonstration team showed of their Waboba skills in the water. Waboba not only raised money for TWLOHA during the event they also introduced thousands of mid-westerns to the ball that bounces on water. It was a beautiful weekend for beach goers and volleyball players.
STAR SPOTLIGHT

Waboba, Fort Lauderdale Dig the Beach ( July 24-25, 2010)
Congratulations to the women's team of Demaris Flores and Marcela Gamarra
who played in Waboba "uniform" while Megan and Chara were in France. They
fought hard on Saturday and won their division on Sunday. Demaris and
Marcela also coached the juniors teams today--as did Mark and Steve
VanZwieten. It was great to see some testosterone on the Waboba team this
weekend! The brothers also played hard--maybe a little too hard late
Saturday, when a collision derailed Steve for Sunday's match. Hope you're
feeling better Steve!
Tropical Storm Bonnie blew through and left beautiful blue skies and breezy
weather for the weekend! The Waboba SpikeKey Beach Team moves on to the Corona Wide Open Tour in Chicago July 31-August 1.

(Waboba) Siesta Key Beach, FL Dig The Beach Tour
What a beautiful weekend for beach volleyball and playing in the water with Waboba! Dig the Beach made their second stop to Siesta Key Beach this year. Fun Fact Dig The Beach broke the record in teams for the junior divisions. Waboba sponsored two professional beach volleyball teams. On the womens side two locals of Sarasota, Chara Harris and Megan Wallin played a solid day of volleyball. They received great support from the crowd! On the mens side Mark Van Zwieten and Steve Van Zwieten took home the gold medal. Waboba and SpikeKey Beach would like to thank all of you who so graciously gave donations in support of TWLOHA.
