Atlantic City, NJ

I have always viewed Atlantic City solely as a gambling town until this past weekend. After stepping outside away from the noisy slot machines and hopeful gamblers there is beautiful four mile boardwalk filled with life and high energy.

The East End Volleyball Tour and Bally’s Casino presented the $8,000 Big Shot Championships Aug. 28-29. During the course of the beach season you could win a trip to Atlantic City by placing first in a tournament hosted by EEVB. There were teams from North Carolina, Virginia, Florida, New York, Chicago, and Michigan all competing for the championship.

The location of the tournament was amazing. There was a beach bar to the left of the courts and to the right was the ocean and sun bathers. The New Jersey crowd certainly got into the game. Check out the You tube videos you can hear the loud cheering and screaming from the crowd.

Waboba was a sponsor for Megan Wallin, Chara Harris and Mark VanZwieten. The athletes handed out Waboba balls to the fans and athletes surrounding the court. Megan and Chara battled through the losers’ bracket and into the finals after losing the first match of the day. They lost a tight game in three in the finals. Check out the game footage below.

Also, Megan Wallin, Chara Harris, Racquel Beson and Kelly Haan were celebrity guest at the Resort Casino. I am sure some video footage will be coming out soon!

Manhattan Beach Open, 50th Anniversary

The city of Manhattan Beach and the California Beach Volleyball Association took full reins of the legendary Manhattan Beach Open to ensure its 50th birthday. (August 21-22, 2010) Along with the Organizers three sponsors stepped up to ensure the event would take place; Waboba, Nectar Accessories and Twelve and Highland.
The Manhattan Beach was crowded with true volleyball advocates and curious spectators. Megan Wallin and Diane Pascua represented Waboba throughout the weekend. This was the first time Megan and Diane stepped onto the sand together. The played four matches on Saturday loosing one pushing them to the contender’s bracket. They lost to Erin Grey and Katherine Babcock on Sunday who took second overall. Waboba broke the record for money raised for TWLOHA! Thanks to all of you who donated to a great cause.
South Bay locals Aaron Watchfogel and Sean Rosenthal captured the Manhattan Beach open crown. The women's champions Tealle Hunkus and Heather Lowe were also crowned. The pair also went undefeated through both days of their title quest.

Mayor, Mitch Ward awarded the winners with giant trophies and thanked the three sponsors by name. It was a great weekend for beach volleyball.

Chicago Corona Light Wide Open Jul 31-Aug 1

Chicago Corona Light Wide Open Jul 31-Aug 1

The Waboba Team hit the 7th beach stop ( Chicago) on the SpikeKey beach summer schedule. Megan Wallin, Chara Harris, Mark & Steve VanZwieten represented Waboba at the Chicago Corona Light Wide Open. The Corona Light Wide Open tour is one of the nation's leading grassroots beach volleyball tours. The tournament had live entertainment throughout the weekend in addition to volleyball of course. The tour stop had a Oakley model search, beach tennis tournament and the tour also partnered with Chicago’s first official SUP race on North Avenue Beach.

The Corona team did a great job branding Waboba all weekend with promotional plugs on Saturday and Sunday. As part of the Waboba team Tony from PR Power and his Waboba demonstration team showed of their Waboba skills in the water. Waboba not only raised money for TWLOHA during the event they also introduced thousands of mid-westerns to the ball that bounces on water. It was a beautiful weekend for beach goers and volleyball players.

STAR SPOTLIGHT

Star Vince Vaughn also made an appearance to North Avenue Beach taking a stroll past the Waboba booth while checking out the volleyball tournament. Karch Kiraly, volleyball legend also stopped by the booth and picked up a couple of Waboba balls for his kids.
